3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I don't live in the off campus housing. Mostly because it's far and expensive

3 College Freshman

Academics: My major is tough but fun. I learn a lot about the fundamentals of art

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: i don't go out that often, but what i've heard from my friends, it can get pretty incredible

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are a few places in town but they can get pretty expensive and not a lot are open late

2 College Freshman

Transportation: I have to walk everywhere because I don't own a car and the roads aren't good enough to longboard or bike ride. I'm sure it's good for me, but it can get annoying

3 College Freshman

Majors: The program i'm enrolled in is free but teaches the fundamentals I need to succeed in the arts.

3 College Freshman

Majors: I would like to be an interior designer and because of the lack of focus, I'm a little worried that I am going to be well trained enough to enter my field

2 College Freshman

Transportation: the shuttles are inconvenient, and walmart and wegmans are about 20 mins away

3 College Freshman

Majors: have a lot of majors. mising the very big ones like computer science and electrical engineering. most majors get pushed to the back while most of the money goes to the art program or the ceramic engineering.

1 College Freshman

Weather: it's horrible. you never see the sun, its freezing cold and its always raining or snowing

3 College Freshman

Computers: they are good, a lot of computer labs to work in. but you need a laptop to have software on it for classes

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: the dorms are big and only doubles, so there is a lot of room. but they are very old and not in the best shape. RA's can be strict sometimes

1 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: every restaurant i've eaten at off campus, is absolutely horrible. i have not found a decent place to eat off campus. the best place is the Chinese food. and thats pretty bad when the best place is a Chinese restaurant

2 College Freshman

Diversity: not very diverse. the vast majority of kids come from upstate new york and from that area

2 College Freshman

Nightlife: a lot of parties every weekend, but they are all the same. boring and full of guys.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: a lot of alcohol and drug use, mainly marijuana

3 College Freshman

Academics: pretty good academics, teachers are very nice and cool and are always available to meet, even late at night.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: The dinning services are not as good as they should be. Most of the time lines are crowded and it takes awhile to get food, which there will be awful selection of food. Some days the food is excellent but most of the tiem it isnt.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The strictness is sometimes too much and RA's and public safety can be too strict. Most of the time they are liniant and understanding, they try not to get you in trouble for small things but big things such as drinking or anything dangerous to student body and campus life they take serious.

Throughout your Alfred experience, you or someone close to you will utter the phrase, "I've got to get out of here." Students at AU make threats to transfer at least twice daily. Still, very few actually do. Many students stay for an extra year. Some stay for grad school, and a good portion of the staff is composed of AU alumni. Why? Students are spoiled! It's comfortable here, the financial aid is great, and many professors are also great mentors. Who would want to leave all that personal attention and a close-knit group of friends to just be a number at another university with a better football team?

AU students will disparage their time at AU with venom. When asked to appraise their experience honestly, however, they'll shrug their shoulders and admit that Alfred has helped them to learn and grow as individuals. While some individuals transfer, the majority of students that chose Alfred knows deep down that they couldn't be anywhere else.
