College Freshman

Transportation: I have my own car because I commute.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I have never come in contact a student that seems to be on drugs.

College Freshman

Computers: I use a personal computer.

5 College Freshman

Academics: Best nursing program in the state!

3 College Freshman

Academics: Could offer more time slots for classes.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Not much to do for entertainment.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Not a whole lot of options.

5 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: I am a commuter, but when I am on campus everything runs smoothly.

4 College Senior

Computers: The computers are up to date and they are continuously being upgraded. Either the computers or the software installed in the computers are up to date. The people in charge of technology are good about getting back with you and helping you with your problems.

3 College Senior

Athletics: Sports are very important at Alderson Broaddus. More then half of the students on campus play some sport. If you play a sport and they like you and give you a scholarship it means they are interested and will invest time in you.

Scholarships: I received some financial aid but I still had to get work study and the financial aid office has been known to mix up papers and get numbers wrong on the way to the business office. Make sure you stay on top of your own finances and stay on top of both offices.

3 College Senior

Parking: With how much the school is growing and the amount of students bringing brought on campus parking is going to be tough to fit everyone. As long as you are willing to walk a little then you will be fine with parking and getting to class in time. More parking is being constructed as we speak.

Facilities: The facilities on campus are very nice. They have been doing a lot of renovations, so currently not everything is finished. They buildings are fairly new and in good condition, although Withers-Brandon sometimes makes you question its safety. To look at the college it seems almost brand new and is well kept. The student center is very nice. It has the cave (a fast food mini restaurant), the cafeteria, study rooms, the bookstore, the mail room, student affairs, a small fitness center, and Jazzman's (a small coffe/smoothie shop with muffins and cookies/ every students favorite).

Campus Housing: The quality of the dorm life really depends on which dorm you stay in. Benedum and Priestley both received new furniture this year. Kincaid is the more social/party housing. Benedum is the least homey, but it is also the cheapest. It does not have AC but by next year it will. Priestly and Kincaid both have AC units in each of the rooms. Priestley and Kincaid also are suites, which means that there are four rooms connected by a central common room and have one bathroom for the suite to share. Kincaid also contains a kitchenette, but is farther away from the main part of campus than Priestley and Benedum. They have built three new dorms, but as I have not been in them I can't say how nice they are, but I have heard nothing but good things about them. Since they are just opening this semester they should be very nice.

Campus Strictness: There really aren't many rules on campus. It is a "dry campus" but the punishments for having alcohol on campus are minimal to nothing. There isn't a dress code, room check, curfew, lights out time, or quiet hour (except during finals). Pretty much they just care where you park and some teachers care that you come to class. I love the school, but they definitely aren't strict.

Parking: Parking on campus is great. The parking is so close to the classrooms that you will always make it to class on time and since freshmen arent allowed to have cars there are enough spaces for everybody who do have cars.

Computers: At Alderson Broaddus University the computer labs are reliable and the WIFI is great but during midterms or finals the labs tend to be over crowded. Most people bring their own laptop to school though. If you do not have your own it is not going to be a huge problem, just be sure to get into the labs early during crunch time.

4 College Junior

Facilities: There is a really great library that keeps you focus when studying. There is enough open spaces as well as sports field/ courts to stay active. There is a great view of the town. Every week there is an activity through the school that we all participate in.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: The town is very small and the closest big town is 30 minutes away in every direction. The town its self has the basic things to do, they have few restaurants that are not expensive. There is a bowling alley; there is a museum, and a library. Philippi is one of the first battle sites for the civil war.

4 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Our school is really strict on being a dry campus No alcohol at any time. Our schools academic is really good the teachers are always willing to help and there are plenty of tutors and places to go to get help.

3 College Junior

Weather: If you live off campus, be prepared to drive in horrible winter weather conditions. Classes are rarely ever cancelled.

The good thing is that most professors are very understandable when it comes to the weather. If you send them an email saying you can't get out, then they'll most likely tell you to STAY HOME AND STAY SAFE.

Spring through early autumn is the best thing about Alderson-Broaddus. It's crisp and refreshing, and you'll find a lot of students enjoying it. There is even an outdoor classroom in which students can enjoy the environment while the professor lectures.

1 College Junior

Transportation: The only transportation we have are vans, which are reserved dominantly for school events, Here-And-There Transit, and self-owned vehicles. It's a small campus, but it would be nice to have a small shuttle to go with it.

2 College Junior

Nightlife: Although I do not live on campus, the college has many entertaining events that they plan. Comedy shows, bands, etc. I've been to a few of these, and none of them have left me disappointed, for the good part!

From hearing a lot of people talk, most of the entertainment in this area is going to Lil Moe's and getting wasted on a nightly basis. That particularly isn't my kind of thing, and if you aren't into the bar scene and don't go out of town much, you won't find much to do around Alderson-Broaddus at night.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: I've been a commuter student myself for all three years of college so far, so living off-campus is my thing. There isn't much apartment-wise, but if you have family in the area, it is the PERFECT way to commute.

However, Alderson-Broaddus doesn't put much consideration into their commuter students. Everything planned is later in the evening, so if you commute, you have to wait around for hours at a time just to participate in the events.

Nightlife: Nightlife is what students dislike about AB. It's a small, dry campus. So there isn't much going on. It issn't allowed, even if you're 21. Most students go to Morgantown when they want to go out. There are plenty of clubs and bars there.
