3 College Freshman

Nightlife: The night life here is pretty much what you make it. There is a "club" on the campus where all of the parties are held. The parties are for everyone, regardless of age. There have only been 1-2 parties held that were for 21 or older. As for off-campus: that doesn't happen unless you have a car or know someone with a car. There are some places nearby (15-20 min away being the closest), but there is no public transit or cabs to take so parties off campus are not convenient for everyone. There are a lot of parties that take place, but my advice is to hang with friends.

Campus Strictness: The campus officials treat us as if we are college students, which means they do not make a fuss about partying. There is no curfew, but there are visitation hours set in place at the dormitories. The strictness comes in when the students take the partying back to the dorms. There are quiet hours set in place for each dormitory. Campus officials are also strict on academics. There is no partying or visitation during mid-terms and finals. The campus is practically shut down during those times. I think the campus is lenient enough to allow the students to be students and party and drink. But it is also strict enough to make students get serious about their academics.

Diversity: Alcorn is an HBCU, so it was not shocking that the majority of the student body is African American. Though when I got here, I was surprised by how many other people of different nationality I saw. The school is prided on its diversity. There is the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion that specializes in celebrating the differences among the students, but also bringing us together as one. Also, even though some people may have the same skin color, there backgrounds are so different. I have been touched and inspired by some of the stories I have heard and learned from. Alcorn gets an A on diversity and inclusion because there have been specific measures taken to help the student body feel like a family regardless of color, politics, sexual orientation, etc.

Health & Safety: The campus is not a dangerous campus. There have been a few incidents (fights), but, the campus is safe. I haven't felt unsafe on the campus. The only time I think people feel unsafe is when walking by themselves at night, and this can be prevented by walking with other people. But overall, the campus is comfortable and safe.

Campus Housing: Alcorn State has the best greenery anyone can ever imagine on a college campus!! There is no favorite when it comes to my school's campus!! Words can't explain the excitement you feel when living on this wonderful reservation! I leave you with the words of Dorothy from Wizard of Oz, "There's no place like home," and indeed Alcorn is a home away from home!!

Greek Life: Due to the fact that I'm non-Greek, I'm peeping from the outside on in!! Here on the yard, the Greeks seems as if they are family!! It's no competition and each organization shows respect towards another! Greek life doesn't affect social atmosphere here, why because they converse with everyone! Greeks at Alcorn State don't judge another person based upon their status, Greek or not they still treat you the same. Housing for Greeks are not available on campus, therefore each organization has it's on tree to represent their brother/sisterhood!

Campus Dining: I'll reward my school with an A!! I say this because we have a variety of foods to choose from in case it's something you may not like!! No one leaves the cafe on an empty stomach!

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I received an amazing amount of financial aid and scholarships. Getting a hold of individuals in the financial aid office via telephone or walk in can sometimes prove to be difficult however once the process is done I received all the financial aid necessary.

Campus Housing: The dorms I stayed in were great, because they were new. The only downside was the lack of wifi access in the dorms and other places around campus.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: There are a large variety of characters at my school. Both males and females are exciting and full of personality.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: The drug scene isn't very visible but is abundant among students. Some use marijuana or prescription pills.Peer pressure is prevalent due to the lack of activities. The campus police catch the more obvious situations, but could do a better job at eliminating more of this.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Alcorn provides a great deal of resources for their athletics programs on campus.Their are state of the art recreation areas, for basketball, football, and baseball players.Sports draws people from all corners of the world, and some how manages to bring us together during the seasons.

Guys & Girls: There various types of girls at Alcorn. There are city girls, emos, women from different parts of the world such as Spain,Russia,Africa,Asia, etc and of course of you have an abundance of southern belles. There are all different types of cultures there, but all seem to be somewhat embracing.

Academics: It's challenging, daunting, but well worth it. After the first 3 weeks I had doubts that I had chosen correctly but after that, everything seemed to get better. I recommend staying the course for one month before making any decision to quit

Health & Safety: I took a night class last semester. Everyone I saw in dark parking lots were friendly, non theatening. SAFE SAFE

Majors: Getting into the nursing program relatively easy. I did not face any challenges. With a great GPA and with a positive mindset you are good to go. There was not any abnormal or special applications to complete. The greatest advise I can give is maintain a good GPA throughout high school and college and you will be fine.

Majors: I am very content with my program. I would absolutely do it over again. The feeling is just wonderful and heart-felt. My career goals include becoming a registered nurse and then proceeding to become an nurse anesthesist. I have no concerns on finding my job in the medical field. By the grace of God I will be blessed with the job.

Majors: Considering I have never had an intership before, I believe an internship is like monitoring a professional on the job you desire to have. I believe its sort of like shadowing. Also considering my major as nursing, it is encouraged in the medical field. Completing an internship and shadowing is very time consuming, but it teaches you responsibility and it gets you ready for you desired job. It is sort of volunteering your time to benifit your future because you will not get paid until you obtain the real job. As I have mentioned, I have not had an internship before, but I do plan to have one in the near future because I would like to be exposed to medical field and have hands-on experience to finalize whether I want nursing to be my life-long career. I have no concerns about finding an intership. Considering I am just a freshman, I have not held any professional training positions yet.

1 College Senior

Guys & Girls: Most girls received the grade D, from not attending class, most guys as well

5 College Senior

Academics: A plus is that student that excell in all that her or she do, this grade exemplify the greatest of all people and can and will get the students opportunities.

1 College Junior

Parking: there isn't enough parking at school and people are constantly fined for parking in places other than parking spaces

3 College Junior

Athletics: the athletic department is in a transitioning stage in which they are getting new coaches and players to turn it into a winning program

1 College Junior

Scholarships: the government issues me the full amount of financial aid but the school took 1000 away from that amount did not fully explain why this was so. then most of my aid was put on a side of my card that I can only use in limited locations

1 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Lorman Mississippi is a very rural area. Not a lot of rent houses or apartments are available.

5 College Junior

Facilities: Our campus is cozy. It has a small town feeling and our nursing class is diverse yet close knit. We all strive for our best, and do not let competition get in the way of helping each other be the best we can be.
