Computers: The only time it's hard to find a place to work is at the very end of semesters when everybody realizes they have to do something.

Niche User

Computers: The network works pretty well here. There may be problems staying connected to it a day or two during each semester, though. The labs are crowded around exam and paper times, but they're usually pretty open most days and times. The library provides notebook computers to check out, and there's almost always some of those available. Think of it this way: If you can't find a computer to use, you're not trying hard enough.

Niche User

Computers: The library has a limited number of laptops that they lend out, so you have to get there early. I don't like the dorm labs much because they are always hot and crowded, and the printer is invariably broken. I also don't think that the school gives you enough print credits, and that the credits should also carry over to include copy machines.

Niche User

Computers: The network is nice for backing up files. It's usually quite easy to get access to a computer in a lab. However, during finals, the labs get a bit congested. Also, the library has a lot of resources on its Web page, but it can be difficult to navigate.

Niche User

Computers: The network is very fast and easy to use from your PC or from one of the many different computer labs. All residence halls have computer labs, as well as most of the academic buildings and the library. They can be crowded on certain days, but finding an open portal somewhere on campus should never be a problem.

Niche User

Computers: At exam time, the labs are always crowded. On a normal day, it is usually easy to find a computer, or you can always check out a laptop at the library.

Niche User

Health & Safety: I feel pretty safe on Albion's campus, except late at night when I'm walking to my dorm from the library, the computer lab, or student union. While the Campus Safety escorts are an option, I don't utilize them much because it's faster just to walk the two blocks. I wish there were more emergency phones and better lighting on some of the pathways.

Niche User

Health & Safety: There have been a few issues with security in the last few years, usually involving college students and community members late at night near the edge or off campus. Overall though, it's quite safe on campus. If students are smart about their own security, there's really no problem at all.

Niche User

Health & Safety: My close friends have never mentioned feeling unsafe around strangers, and Albion is fairly well-lit. However, I do know of a few friends that have been violated by acquaintances, especially in the party scene. You just have to travel in groups and stay with your friends. Seriously, there's a reason this is recommended.

Niche User

Health & Safety: A few late-night muggings are not that big of a deal. We are so hung up on the crime rate being zero that we freak out when something happens. Every city has some crime-I think our security is pretty good considering that.

Niche User

Health & Safety: In many ways, women's health and safety is treated lightly at Albion. We still have some problems with the difference between `zero tolerance' and `no tolerance' for sexual harassment charges on our campus. There is a difference. Health Services also denies women the right to certain birth control methods, such as emergency contraception, which can be a hassle.

Niche User

Health & Safety: I feel safe at Albion. There have been reports of a mugging here or there. For the most part, Albion is a pretty safe place. Campus Safety is always willing to walk students from late-night study spots to their dorms. Safety is something I believe the school is concerned about, and they manage to take care of pretty much everything.

Niche User

Health & Safety: Campus Safety is always around, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective. The campus is pretty safe overall, though. Sure, there have been a few incidents, but none of them were serious, and they all could have been prevented if the students had requested rides from Campus Safety.

Niche User

Health & Safety: The security is good on campus. Campus Safety will provide escorts to students who feel unsafe walking from place to place late at night. However, as a woman, I've never used the service and have always felt safe on my own.

Niche User

Local Atmosphere: The town is pretty small and not used by students as much as it should be. A lot of students don't realize all of the great things about the town, like going for a drive through the country and discovering a one-room schoolhouse from the 1850s or finding a family cemetery from the turn of the century. There's a lot of history here that's fun to discover.

Niche User

Local Atmosphere: The town of Albion is poor in comparison to the College, and the town thrives on the College for income. The Bohm is a theater refurbished by the College, and it is free for students. It's a fun place to go if you have free time. A lot of people also go to Cascarelli's for Italian food and a few other restaurants. There are also gas stations, Goodwill, and the library. Be careful at night, though.

Niche User

Local Atmosphere: In regards to the town itself, Albion is much more liberal than the school. Albion is a very poor city, and the `town-and-gown relationship' is relatively poor, largely due to the campus administration.

Niche User

Local Atmosphere: I can't really think of anything to stay away from. In the first few weeks of school, you should be able to figure out what you like and dislike. From there, you can figure out what it is that you'll do for fun on campus.

Niche User

Local Atmosphere: Albion doesn't really have many sights and sounds worth traveling to, though there is Victory Park and a quaint downtown that are at least fun to walk through every now and then. Albion is regarded as a `suitcase college' by some. Fulfilling that name, Albion is located close to other colleges that you may get a greater kick out of visiting.

Niche User

Local Atmosphere: Albion is a small school in a small city, so it may take some getting used to for a lot of the students. I'm a firm believer, though, that anyone can have a good time if they are willing to be a little creative. Also, the College understands that there aren't a whole lot of things to do, so they are pretty good about bringing in comedians and musicians. In addition to that, the Coffee House is a great place to hang out and watch live bands, or just get to know new people.

Niche User

Local Atmosphere: Albion is a typical small town. At first, it's sort of a shock, but eventually it becomes homey.

Niche User

Academics: The teachers are actually one of my favorite parts about Albion. They are always willing to spend extra time with students and meet outside of class whenever needed. Most of them are extremely enthusiastic about what they are teaching, which makes attending class much more fun.

Niche User

Academics: Some believe that teachers are difficult at Albion while I'd say much to the opposite. A great deal of professors make you work, and if you do, you'll be better off in the long run. However, some professors are also known for being notoriously easy. While their courses may be a breeze, you'll get nothing out of them.

Niche User

Academics: I love the professors at Albion. I really don't think that I've had a bad professor here. They're always willing to meet with you if you need help or to read over a paper before you turn it in. They're great teachers as well as active scholars in their fields.

Niche User

Academics: The professors are one of my favorite things about Albion. They are, for the most part, very nice individuals willing to lend a helping hand whenever they can. The best professors are those who are excited about what they teach and can spread that excitement to their students. Also, professors are often very accessible and easy to talk to.

Overall, Albion College is great for a number of reasons. The small campus makes it easy to make friends immediately and meet new people. While living in Albion can be boring at times, making the most of it is sometimes what will leave you with the most memories. There is a sense of community on Albion's campus that is hard to duplicate anywhere else. This isn't to say that everyone gets along, but there is a certain bond between all Albion students.

Albion's liberal arts education is something that also seems to be unique to the College. The professors are approachable, and their excitement for their courses is infectious. Even when you're taking a class that is not related to your major, you appreciate what you learn and are proud of what you've learned in looking back. Beneath the exterior sometimes, Albion is just a down-home friendly kind of place, and a lot of students seek comfort in that and learn to love where they are.
