3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Albany is not a big city. Most people only leave campus to get food, go to the mall, movie theater, or parties. But we do have just about any thing a large city has. Albany State is the heart of Albany GA.

Campus Strictness: The campus definitely does its job when it comes to strictness. Albany is what we call an open campus. There is no major check in points, we have a lot of locals on campus. But you never really here about crime. I walk the campus at night and feel perfectly safe. The police are always driving around and asking if you need any help or a ride.

Parking: For the most part all of the halls have direct access to parking. Halls 1, 2, East and North share a small parking lot, but also has access to the library parking lot. Halls 3 and 4 have a parking lot and access to an unpaved parking area also. Halls 5 and 6 have the best parking with ample parking spots. However, do not expect to drive to places like the cafeteria. There is no parking there.

Drug Safety: On campus police lock down on all drugs, so thats not a issue.

College Sophomore

Transportation: We dont have a transit that goes around the campus

Weather: The weather in Albany is very bipolar. It is often really hot in the winter, and overly hot in the summer. And when the rain comes, it stays for several days. But most days in Albany are nice days.

Local Atmosphere: Albany is a small city that doesn't have a lot to offer, but Albany has a lot of potential to big things and bring more attraction. The major site in Albany is Albany State University, but with Darton College and Albany Tech around the corner, Albany could do alot of offer there college students while they get their education.

3 College Freshman

Computers: Most of the computers are available in the library or labs. Wifi is a problem sometimes but if you use a ethernet cord then you will be fine

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: there is a no tolerance rule which means you are not allowed to have drugs or alcohol on campus. if caught its an automatic expulsion.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: the campus is a no tolerance campus, which means theres absolutely no drugs or alcohol allowed on campus. there are securty poles located literally everywhere in case of emergency. We have a police station across the street from our ACAD building. over all i feel very comfortable and safe here.

Guys & Girls: At ASU you'll find people who take value appearance. From the sports players to the business majors, you can tell where people are headed, career wise.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: I would give the athletics at ASU a C+ because the only major sport that is payed attention to is football. The other sports aren't nearly as good as our football team and they are not payed attention to by the students. The school does have great school spirit, there's even a spirit squad. The athletic facilities are available to all students, there's a pool, and a weight room that students have access to.

Campus Strictness: At ASU, the campus is strict but not too strict. It is a dry campus meaning absolutely NO ALCOHOL OR DRUGS on campus at all. As a member of SGA Internal Affairs, I hear the cases of students who have gotten into trouble for violating the student code of conduct and there are misconceptions about the campus being dry. You can go off yard and drink or whatever, but if you come back to campus intoxicated or under the influence you will be in trouble IF you get caught. The residential assistants are pretty cool for the most part but there are those "super R.As". The rule for attendence is you get as many absences as hours for the class (3 hour class, you get 3 absences), after you've missed the number of absences you are given, your letter grade drops one point. (not all teacher do this but some of them do). The dress code is there but it's not really enforced.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: The campus has a zero tolerance policy. There will be consequences if you are caught with drugs or alcohol. The police force is good. I feel safe on and off campus.

3 College Junior

Majors: The process of getting into my Accounting major doesn't require much. Students will need to maintain a C average in every business course level to receive a Bachelors Degree.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Albany State is a nice school but has a way to go to become a great school. The schools setup is fair but needs to be improved and the atmosphere is not as academically based and I need it to be for myself.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: My major is said to be an easy one however I think the complete opposite. Some of the classes that come with my major are difficult but I have professors in my department that are knowledgeable about the topic they teach and they are very helpful when they are not busy.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Albany State University is a HBCU meaning historically black college/university. With that being said, most of the students here are black but we do have a small number of white, asian-american, and hispanic students. There are wealthy students and non so rich students. But we as a student body can come together regardless are economic standing. Politics is not a big topic on campus. But as far as sexual orientation, there are a lot of gay men and woman on campus and most people accept these people for who they are.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Mainly because I don't leave off campus, because all the fun is on campus.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: I gave it a B, because you don't really see anybody until the events on campus, but when they do step out, they step out well.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: The campus has a Zero tolerance for alcohol and or drugs on school grounds. This is not a huge issue on campus and very few incidents involving drugs or alcohol occur. Usage of either is low on campus and peer pressure is very minimal.

1 College Junior

Transportation: Public transportation from the campus to other locations is not great. The buses do not run as often as they should and there is not a very well known alliance with the university and city transportation. There are no shuttles on campus or shuttles that run from campus to local businesses. Without a vehicle or friend who owns a vehicle it is almost impossible to accomplish anything in the city of Albany.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Plenty of scholarship opportunities at Albany State. Some require a certain grade point average or financial situation.

5 College Junior

Greek Life: Greek life is strong at Albany State. We have the Devine 9 as well as Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha, Tau Beta Sigma, as well as a myriad of honor societies.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: The nightlife is pretty good. You just have to be careful where you go. I would only attend college parties if I went out for safety reasons. Usually something to do on campus all of the time. There is plenty to do!
