Facilities: APU shares the library on the UAA campus however, even with our APU parking seal if students park at the UAA library parking lot we will get a $30.00 parking ticket. This is completely WRONG! APU students are expected to buy a UAA parking seal as well as APU. The Dean needs to do SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!

Off-Campus Dining: I don't eat on campus. I cook and eat at home.

Nightlife: I am a lot older with grown children and an elderly parent. I don't drink, smoke or attend clubs.

Health & Safety: I have a lot of on line evening classes therefore, I am not on campus at night or in the winter.

Academics: The decision makers in my program are reluctant to make the hard decisions required of them. Rather sad.

Academics: The professors expect the students to do the majority of the teaching, I enjoy the independent study aspect, but wish there was more information transmission from the professors.

Computers: I met with tech support and it was totally unhelpful, nice guy, but...

Off-Campus Housing: I already had housing so I don't know what assistance they offer

Guys & Girls: Quite an array of men and women at the university. Age range varies widely and I honestly don't see many people outside my cohort. Primarily women in their 20's in my group and only a few men, mostly older. Average people.

Facilities: The campus is quite small and there are some activities availale to students but it is in need of a make over.

Local Atmosphere: First off, Alaska is BEAUTIFUL. If you've never been here, it should definitely be on your bucket list. APU is situated in a little forested nook of Anchorage, with trails close at hand for running, skiing, or biking. The mountains are also a few minutes drive away, so if you want to go for a quick hike or ski after class, go for it! The campus is small, and everyone is pretty much on a first-name basis. It's nice, but has its drawbacks sometimes. It has a "small town" feel in a large city.

Greek Life: There is no Greek life at APU. There are no fraternities and no sororities. If that sounds good to you, then APU is your place. If you live on campus, there's a high chance you'll know every on-campus person's name by the end of your first semester.

Off-Campus Housing: APU does not help you in off-campus housing searches. However Anchorage is ripe with apartment options. Alaska is an expensive place to rent an apartment on your own, especially if you expect to maintain a full-time status at the university. I suggest you find a couple close friends and go in on rent together!

Campus Housing: There are several options for living on campus after freshman year. You have the option of living in the dorms, on campus apartments, or on campus houses. The rooms are large and there's not much to complain about.

Weather: It depends on whether you like snow or not, I'd hope if you move to Alaska you'd like snow. The snow allows for great cross country ski trails all around campus/town. There's also always the opportunity to go sledding because the snow sticks around all winter. The summers are extremely nice. There is so much daylight and temperatures hover around the 60s and 70s.

Local Atmosphere: Everyone is always off on an adventure. The outdoor programs puts on amazing trips that go all over Alaska from ski trips to sea kayaking to ice climbing. There are always activities going on on campus as well: movies, trips around Anchorage, coffee trips, etc.

5 College Freshman

Parking: Parking is free, you just have to ask for a permit and there is no shortage of parking spots. A car isn't necessary, the student ID is also a bus pass and that's how I get around town.

4 College Freshman

Computers: The academic support center has lots of computers that are always open and its open fairly late. The WIFI connection isn't too bad, its slow at times, but no major complaints about it.

5 College Senior

Drug Safety: I always feel safe on campus, and drugs are not an issue.

5 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: There is always something exciting or interesting happening on campus, close to campus, or within a reasonable vicinity to campus.

5 College Senior

Campus Housing: I live off campus, but I hear life on campus is affordable, fun, and always something to do.

Guys & Girls: The guys and girls attending APU are very friendly and diverse. Students from all over the country travel to APU for their amazing outdoor science program. APU's students range from fresh out of high school to the working professional who has decided to go back to school. Regardless of age, all are accepted as APU emphasizes diversity and acceptance on their campus.
