Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Alabama A&M University is located in Normal, Ala. Other than a few gas stations, barber shops, and a couple of rundown eating joints, there isn't too much in Normal. However, just a few minutes away is Huntsville, where all the students go to enjoy a good meal, catch a dollar movie, shop, or check out museums like the Space and Rocket Center. The city of Huntsville is a small and friendly town. Although it's located in the South, the people and the way of life are not as slow as one might think; on the other hand, Huntsville is not as fast as a bigger city, either. It maintains an even pace that is not so fast where you feel like you can't keep up, but slow enough for you to recognize that you're in the South.

Huntsville has a very family-oriented atmosphere. Generally, strangers will speak to you when you pass them by. People from the community (including local alumni, church members, teachers, and faculty) will look after you, especially if you're an out-of-state student. They'll feed you once in a while, invite you over, and treat you just like family.
