Academics: Need to Be Competitive With Other Schools – I was a dance major at Adelphi. It was a solid program in itself and we had a lot of time spent on technique and performance. However, there was a lack of variety of calsses applicable to real life in the dance world. Other schools offer improv, anatomy, and how to get jobs when you graduate. Ours did not and I felt unprepared for the auditioning world during a recession.

Transportation: The train is a half mile from the school and the other train station about 2 miles from the school they provide an hourly bus to and from.

3 College Senior

Athletics: School Teams – Schoo teams are highly competitive in the divisions they play in and all events are free for students.

Local Atmosphere: The school is close to public transportation which can get you to NYC in less than 30 minutes. The camous is located in an upscale area with many gardens.

Overall Experience: To be honest, Adelphi is a beautiful school...the professors are very knowledgable and approachable. But its the little things that make the school go from an A to a C, in my opinion. For one, the new dining plans are not organized at all, so it is already October and I have to ration my meal card 'Panther Dollars' because the cashiers didn't even know how to properly use the system until recently.
Secondly, I was put in the 'international dorm' where they never explicitly said that its occupants move in and out of the hall almost monthly...it is annoying to have to deal with the same problems over and over again, with the added difficulty of a language barrier. They did not tell me this before moving in, and if I knew--I would have requested a room switch.
Additionally, there is NOTHING to do on weekends here--it is so quiet and boring, most people go home just to avoid it. Also, there is nothing to do within walking distance of campus...most students use a car or take the shuttle bus system. But this is tedious at times because you can only go to so many places with the bus system, so it's best to have a car or have a friend with a car.

Majors: getting into the nursing program is very tidious and you do have a special admission process and also u will have to take a test if you are a transfer student .

Campus Strictness: Don't Try It – there are always cops around , and they are strict !

2 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Not Popular – the drug scene is almost non existent, but this only proves to be true depending on your crew.

1 College Sophomore

Scholarships: the financial aid people are so rude and not helpful at all, they messed up my financial aid this semester and I think it's probably because my mom always calls up and complains to them.

1 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: It's a dry campus and they're serious about it. People get caught drinking in their room and they have to go to alcohol counseling if they continue to get caught they get kicked out of housing.

Guys & Girls: The ladies and gentlemen at Adelphi University range on the spectrum from A-F. While Adelphi is a predominantly female campus, the guys who play on the sports teams are very good looking. The social life of the campus is D worthy. Only a handful of students are really involved on campus. The girls are good looking I guess. They're typical long island girls who like wearing sweat pants and uggs like anyone else but they get all dolled up on thursday.

Facilities: People in Adelphi is always happy, there isn't a sad moment at the campus. Everyoe experiences the same things at more orless the same time, which always sets the tone and mood of campus.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Campus life seems pretty dull, as it isn't a "prty" shcool. The clubs are all very limited and greek life isn't a turn on as it would be at other schools. They limit most things that can occur.

4 College Freshman

Computers: The access in school, is not as advanced as say using mac computers. There are Dell desktops which work at a decent speed and the printers print fairly well. The wireless access is great, it is all over campus even in the fields.

4 College Junior

Transportation: There are many transportations for people to take such as the LIRR, the buses, Adelphi's own bus route, and personal cars. there main streets around campus as well as highways. It is easy to get to school and back or to any place because there are so many ways to get around.

5 College Junior

Scholarships: There's Never Enough – my financial aid process has been positive. i'm just so paranoid that i constantly check it, fearing i won't have enough money to pay for school. the only tip i have is the sooner you do it the better.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: Back to School – my overall experience was a little scary at first, being i haven't been in school in years. my oldest son is 27 and my youngest son is 20 and attends nassau community college. the tables have also turned for me, i used to help my son with his homework, now he helps me. going back to school was challenging but its always something i wanted to do. i am living my dream.

5 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: A Satisfied Customer – the mall has everything from american to japanese.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Strong Will at All Time – The teams at my school are very hard working and the effort pays off. we have obtained a few titles recently and everyone appreaciates the good name the athletes give to the school.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: They Are There for You – I am an undeclared student but possibly leaning towards political science. My classes are interesting and not easy nor hard. The professors are very understanding and helpful as well.

Academics: Some courses offer ample challenge to students; however, at a certain level in college, students should be given a higher standard of expectation. By the time a student reaches the upper-division college level classes (300-level undergrad, a master's level coursewor), professors should expect the students to be able to know what a research paper contain, what crediting sources means and how to do it.

4 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Easy to Follow – Adelphi rules are really average and easy to follow. Typically, if you think it is going to be against the rules, it probably will be. They are fairly strict on plagerism, but I've never seen anyone actually get kicked out for it. Adelphi is also a "dry campus" so there is no alcohol allowed anywhere (dorms included), except for a handful of campus-run events. THAT they are very strict about.

3 College Junior

Nightlife: Don't Really Take Part – Nightlife is something I don't really take part in personally. I know they are lax on "21 and over" rules depending on where you go but I never hear anything outstanding about any of the places. You are best off just venturing into Manhattan rather than staying around campus.

2 College Junior

Campus Dining: Looking for a Change – Adelphi students CONSTANTLY complain about Adelphi's food. It is incredibly overpriced and has caused food borne illnesses on campus. This price is an issue for the majority of students who are commuters because we do not have a mealplan to cover our expenses. The school ignores the many calls for change. The food quality is not bad but the wait is long and the food expensive.

Facilities: Always Have Something Going on – There is always something going on at Adelphi, whether it's a famous person coming to speak, fun activities for various occasions and much more. Adelphi will always keep you busy and entertained if you are willing to socialize and get to know your school during your breaks. One of the things that I liked was their goal to make students aware of their happiness level and they asked students to write on a poster what makes them happy. They have a gym and group classes to keep you fit.
