Computers: Not Enough – As a computer science major, the fact that computers are sluggish and at times hard to find can be a problem

3 College Senior

Weather: Spring Awesome – The only problems with the weather are that when it snows they have to fill up parking spaces, and the sidewalks are a little icy. In the spring, when it gets hot there are a ton of rooms that lack ac and some that don't even have windows ex. SCB227

4 College Senior

Transportation: Very Easy – Since i live 5 minutes away it's very easy for me to get to adelphi, but it is almost in the middle of nowhere. Although there is a train stop and bus stop right in front of the campus

3 College Senior

Parking: Good in Morning – Simply put if you have classes from 11-1 pm it's going to be tougher to find parking, however if you're not lazy there are plenty of spots available in the back by post hall

Majors: I Enjoy It Although Challenging – I enjoy it but it is mental because people tell you if your good or not and it's physical because it is every day. It is constant wear and tear on your body as well. Sometimes it can be challenging because the professors are hard on you because they want you to succeed.

Majors: It Can Be Hard – As a high schooler applying to colleges one of the things required in this filed was to audition. You had to audition with upper classroom as well as perform a solo in front of the dance staff. You also had to apply academically and had to be accepted. It can be hard because you needed to be accepted for both.

Majors: Internships Were Not Required – internships were not part of the dance major. We were exposed to professional choreographers but they came to our classes.

Majors: I Don't Regret Choosing Dance – As a dance major, this was something that was always a part of my life so I decided to take it to the next level. Choosing Adelphi over others school was an easy decision. It was not far from home plus it would allow me to earn a BFA in the field that I love. My goal is to get a job in the performing arts. If I could do it over again I would choose the same thing but would add musical theater as a minor. I do have many concerns because finding a job in this type of field will be very difficult.

Diversity: The school is extremely diverse. There are a lot of different types of people in my school. The clubs and meetings were open to a lot of different people and things. The student body was very diverse, and filled with opportunity .

Facilities: College Life: It's What You Make of It – Adelphi's campus is extremely aesthetically pleasing. Although it is close to a bad area, the campus and places immediate to the campus are safe. There are a lot of places to study and all of the facilities are fairly new, such as the fitness center and the art department. There are many organizations to join, whether its green council, SNAP, or any of the 20+ greek organizations. There are always fun activities going on in the UC (university center) or shows in the PAC (performing arts center). Unfortunately, the campus life at night can be dead at times, however, you have to make your own fun, right? Adelphi's campus is located close to the train station so if you're looking for a night in the city or a day in the hamptons, there is easy transportation to and from these hot spots.

Campus Dining: Quite Delicious – The campus dining is great, I love the variety of the foods and the freshness of the food. It is great to eat there because nothing is reprocessed. The meal plans are good, and they last the entire semester.

Local Atmosphere: Nice Neighborhood – The neighborhood is very nice and classy. The people are friendly, and loving, there is always someone to help. the area has many shops and areas where alot of cultural events are held. there are alot of pubs to visit and of course the lovely beaches and naval airspace museams.

Nightlife: Kind of Boring – The nightlife at Adelphi University is very quiet, there is barely anything to do. At a certain time the campus gets really quiet, kind of like a ghost town.

Off-Campus Housing: I Live Off Campus – I live off campus. I feel it is better to live off campus; I like the added freedom of having my own place to live at. The pros is that the school is by MTA system, which means you can live in Queens, Brooklyn, or Manhattan and easily get to school with no trouble at all. The cost for me is more convenient and finding parking in my Queens area is very easy! One can easily find an apartment or room for a good price and have extra money for a social life.

Health & Safety: So Safe! The school is by a police precinct, it is literally two blocks away! There are cops and police riding around at all hours. The actually area is safe too and quiet. The school has safety procedures, in which only students and staff can come in with ID's and permission. The whole area gives you a safe feeling.

Overall Experience: Great School to Attend – Adelphi University is a great school and the surrounding area is wonderful. I love it there! I feel so safe in the area and it provides a great social life and fun activities. It also has a great reputation to prepare you for your bright future. I am looking forward to graduating, because I know I will find a job easily. This is the first college and I am at my Masters level that I feel at home and safe in a school. You should attend this school; you will be happy that you choose them for a great education and a fun time.

Weather: It's hard to assign a letter grade to weather. I can say that I honestly hate the cold and winters here are brutal. I'm sure they're nothing like schools in upstate NY but being surrounded by beaches (Jones Beach is closest) definitely does not help the cause. It gets significantly colder out here on the island that it does back home where I live in Jersey. Wintertime on campus puts a serious damper on my experience because I'm really just so bad in the cold. Other than that, we get a such a range of weather here - we really get it all. We could get close to zero degrees Fahrenheit in the winter (maybe even below) and over 100 degrees in the summer. I would think that is a very attractive thing about the area that the university is located in - getting all the seasons. The campus is also an arboretum, so it's GORGEOUS in the springtime and everyone hangs out outside.

Campus Strictness: Whip Into Shape – Public Safety is amazing at what they do. They love being here - it shows. The Resident Assistants enforce policy, as well. The campus is dry - even if you are 21 you cannot have alcohol on campus (especially in the residence halls because we don't have any 21+ residence halls). The guest policy is very strict with having to sign people in and out of the building. The overnight guest policy could be a little more lenient, however. Instead of 48 hours notice, 24 hours or emergency day-of should be sufficient as long as the roommate signs off that is okay for the other roommate to have a guest.

Parking: Lots of Space to Park – Parking on campus isn't that bad because they have lots of space to accomodate especially since the school is a majority commuter school. The downside is that some parking lots are more full than others especially where the university center is and levemore hall which is kind of hard.

Campus Strictness: The school reviews I have read stated that the administration is strict about certain things, such as drug/alcohol use on campus..but overall, I don't perceive the school to be really strict, so far...

Overall Experience: Will be starting my First semester as a lower division nursing student in the Fall 2012...so we shall see how it goes. So far, the school staff I have encountered seem to be pretty nice and helpful...

Local Atmosphere: Chic Surburban Neighborhood With a Metropolis Flair – A city of beautiful lush trees plants and flowers! Very chic and modern restaurants and local eateries to choose from...not to mention, Roosevelt Field Mall, which is very close to many entertainment complexes. A bustling town with people from all walks of life, and beautiful landscapes to boot...

Transportation: University Shuttles – The university shuttles provided by the school are affective. For commuters who do not have cars, or sometimes only carpool, the shuttle buses takes commuter students to railroad stations. For on-campus living students, the shuttle allows students without cars to go grocery shopping, to the mall, and to the movies. Effective, however, at times the shuttles are not on time, and take longer than said transport time.

Facilities: All the Buildings Are Nice – All the facilities are nice and well maintained. The science building is a huge circle and walking around the building can get you a bit dizzy. But, the gym is amazing. The student center is nice too.
