Campus Housing: the kitchen does not have dishes but over all it is great. The R.A's are phenomenal and the dorms are in once central location, they are also not far from anything on campus, everything is just about ten minutes away even the furthest thing.

Nightlife: I commute so I wouldn't know about the night life around adelphi

College Senior

Greek Life: I'm a commuter and when you commute you're left out of many things so I wouldn't know anything about Greek life

Campus Dining: It's alright, you don't have that much variety. I wish they had a Starbucks or dunkin donuts on campus. I used to buy wraps, but every time I ate them I got a stomache.

Majors: I am close to finishing my first year of internship and getting ready to start another year in the fall. MSW students are required to complete 600 unpaid internship hours for 2 years prior to graduating.
I think the internship is really what you make of it. If you take it upon yourself to have responsibilities and try to learn, then you will. I had a little difficulty finding one at first because I live in NJ and being a NY based school, Adelphi has more connections with NY offices. However, once I found one I was able to dive in right away, learning about policies and procedures and then starting to do the actual work of a school social worker.

Majors: I didn't have any difficulties or challenges getting into my program. I just submitted the required information and I got in. What I did like and really the reason that I applied to and now attend Adelphi is that they don't really have an application deadline. I submitted my application around the end of May and I was accepted in time for the fall semester. Also, the class scheduling is very flexible. Except for last summer, I have taken all my classes on Saturdays which has been extremely helpful to me since I work and live in NJ but go to school in NY.

Majors: I'm getting my Masters in Social Work at Adelphi University's Manhattan Campus and I'd say it's a mixed bag. I've had some outstanding professors and some not so good ones but I feel like I've definitely learned something in all of my classes. The program is a work in progress so there are some things that need improvement, however, the staff and directors are really open to feedback and encourage self-advocacy.

Parking: Depending on the day of the week, parking can be a nightmare if you arrive at the same time as everyone else. There are certain days and times when parking is a breeze.

Campus Strictness: The school has strict policies about drinking on campus. It is best to go out if you want to drink.

3 College Senior

Weather: The campus is very pretty. It is NY so it is chilly in the winter and very warm in the summer. Luckily the campus is not huge so you will survive the walk from building to building.

Greek Life: Greek life is very big at Adelphi. I love all of the people I have met that are a part of a sorority or fraternity at Adelphi!

Transportation: The shuttle is mostly reliable. There were very few times when it didn't run on time. The schedule is generous with plenty of buses available.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: Adelphi University financial aid process is very typical. They use the same guidelines as everyone else.

Weather: When it's hot it's beautiful! When it's muggy/humid, it's sticky!

Majors: I had to set up a date to audition with other current dancers at the school. I took the ballet and modern class with the level three dancers and then I performed my two minute solo for some of the dance professors. I had to bring with me a resume, head shot, and body shots. After my solo the dance professors talked to me for a minute about why I wanted to attend Adelphi and why I loved dance. A week or so later I received my acceptance letter with a scholarship for dance.

Academics: The Dance department is unique because all of the professors have performed professionally with at least one company and many have come from different countries like France, Germany, Columbia, and Canada. As a dancer I have ballet and modern technique classes for 15 hours a week with an added 5 hours of pointe and partnering classes. All dancers must take a dance history, dance anatomy, dance composition I and II. If you are selected by faculty for shows after an audition, then you rehears an average of three to six hours a week. You can also choreograph your own dance piece for the end of semester workshop and perform in the workshop.

4 College Junior

Academics: All the professors are available to help you outside of class either in person or email. The work load is usually reasonable per class. Some classes you may have to write more papers others have online assignments that have to be submitted by a certain time. I am a dance major so most of my work load is studying dance by going to watch a dance show, reviewing dance performances in a two to three page paper or studying anatomy.

Transportation: Adelphi is very convenient for transportation by the LIRR, but quite expensive.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: There are a few bars in the general area of Adelphi, but you will have to take a cab to get there and that can get expensive. I think the bars are always crowded too and they're just a bunch of people acting trashy. If you aren't a big partier, this whole scene gets old really quickly. There are some house parties in the area, but nothing too crazy as far as I know

Majors: The Majors here, always have in internship for people that tends to their major over the summer. So it's very easy to apply on campus and off campus as well. My roommate and I have an internship at another college for $900, so Adelphi is always helping us one way or another.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: It's very good, the cost is always free and the people that drive the shuttles are always helpful, if you don't know when your shuttle is coming.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I love the dorms, it's the people I have to it with.

Parking: There are never many parking spots available on campus during the school day. Many are late to class because they could not find parking or had to park off campus.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The freshman dorms at Adephi University are about average compared to other schools, and I like how they're organized, as each floor seperates girls and guys by a lounge so there is privacy. The other dorms however are very spacious and include everything and anything you will need to live there for the year.
