Student Body: The typical student is someone who think, works, and plays just like you. Such as when I was in high school, I was so passionate about animation but there was no on to talk to about it. Here, everyone speaks your language, they understand you.

There is so much diversity, it is beautiful! Students from all across the nation and from all around the world! I meant people from India, Thailand, China, Hungary, Sweden, Mexico, and the Philippines. There are a lot more, I just have to met them first.

Since we are in San Francisco, you can tell how diverse we are in character. And for those in the LGBT community, you will feel safe and secure here.

Career Services: I really have no idea since I just finished my first year and I am not there yet. I have heard that everyone is really helpful.

Tuition & Financial Aid: Every school you go to you will find that tuition is high and that financial aid might be your only answer. The tuition at Academy of Art University is on the higher side. Classes here are quite pricey at $785/ unit. Comparing this to state universities that also offer animation majors, yes it is a steep price. But comparing this to other private art schools, this is lower or even half the cost of tuition. Even with the location being in the city of San Francisco, you kind of already expect it to be expensive. The education I am receiving for the price depends on the class, honestly. My if I did my classes on campus instead of online, then it would seem like an excellent price only because I am physically there. But dorms cost money. Online classes are still great, it is just more meaningful and personal on campus.

The experience I have received from my financial aid adviser was fine. Perhaps because doing FAFSA is nerve wrecking, one mistake can cost you hundreds or thousands. I would say that I feel like I should be receiving more student grants. I work have from my grades, I should be rewarded the Cal Grant A amount.

Overall Experience: I have only been on campus for the Summer Expo program which was only nine days but it was the best nine days ever. The connection you make with other students so fast, it makes you part of the family and everyone had just met! We have all asked each other when we are going to take on campus classes so that we can have this much fun. We were all of value to each other. Does someone need an illustrator, she's an illustrator. Is someone making a website and they need a couple of animators, there they are. Is someone directing a film and need actors, be ready to hold auditions. We need each other for the summer, for our projects, and for the future.

Overall Experience: I have found that networking for a job or internship in your field at this school is a lot more professional that some of the others schools in my area. I had a friend from another school tell me that to get an internship, you had to met your instructor at a bar. At my school we have formal networking parties where instructors, directors, alumni, and current students can talk and pass business cards to or share our portfolio. Or there is the day where recruiters from big name companies can review your portfolio and if they like what they see you can get an internship or may be even hired on the spot.

And for other days you can always talk to your instructors, who are professionals in their field. There are many ways to get information about internships and careers, the information isn't hiding.

The value of the degree is held high because many companies know that these graduates know what they are doing because they have been taught the foundations all the way to the most current techniques. If you look at Digital Domain's website, you will find that the Academy of Art University is one of the thirty on the list of most recognized in having the strongest programs in art and technology.

Online Courses: I am currently taking online courses and I can not tell you enough how convenient these classes are. There isn't a blocked schedule, you take the class when you need to. Right now I am taking two summer classes and they have been a mix of fun and challenging. A week in the class is a module, for summer classes you have two modules a week because of the shorter term. The module starts with the reading and the slide show and presentation from the instructor. After the reading, you might be asked to read a chapter of the textbook. Then on to the discussion with the class. The discussion is a big part of the class. Though the discussion is heavy, it doesn't really compare to face to face connections. It is more difficult to make a friend in class. But for those shy student who don't speak up as much as they should, this can be a lot more comfortable to come up with really elaborate discussion points and to just add to the conversation. After the discussion, you are assigned your homework/assignment/project. Then when that is over you take the quiz at the end of the module. Exams depends on the instructor. Currently my exams are frequent.

Campus Resources: The resources on campus are great and are always improve year after year. I wouldn't say its the best of the best because I didn't look around every corner, so it would be unfair to say that I am assuming it is just as great. I have only seen a sample of some of the other departments and my own, there is so many rooms. Also remember that everything it there for you. Do you need to borrow a theater? Do you need need a green screen room? Do you need other students from other departments? Though it is a large population, there is a cozy sense to these students that makes you feel like this is where you belong. There are so many student activities to do! Want to go dancing? Want to go bowling at Jillian's? Want to watch a movie while in a pool? Or do you want to many of the city activities, it is San Francisco, these are not you ordinary city activities.

I am only rating this as "It's great" because we don't have classrooms that look like they belong in sci-fi movies. One day..One day...

Overall Experience: I have had the opportunity to work with people from the industry, some however are students that knw the software very well. Overall my teachers know quite a lot. I wish they offered more Visual Effects courses, the 3D Animation departments seems to be favored more (cartoon) rather than VFX.
