Athletics: Involvement of Varsity sports is a big part of the ACU community. While we are not the best in every sport, our campus is filled with school spirit, especially at football and basketball games. During the first half of every football games, every ACU student stands unwaveringly until the halftime buzzer to show support.

Campus Strictness: ACU is a strict campus compared to a lot of other private schools. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing because they, unlike alot of "announced Christian campuses", actually exemplify the values they preach. They are pretty strict about drinking, partying and visitation but overall it is not bad.

Diversity: ACU has increased in diversity over the years but is still predominantly white.

Off-Campus Dining: Abilene has good options, but most of them are chain restaurants. There are a lot of affordable options though that are close to campus.

Weather: If you live in Texas, you know the weather is hot one day and cold the next. It gets fairly cold in the winter and extremely hot in the summer.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Lots of house parties. The few bars we have usually have country bands playing on weekends like Josh Abbott and Randy Rogers.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are some popular places that mostly aren't too expensive. There just is not an overwhelming amount of them.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: The facilities are pretty nice. There is an awesome Rec. There is always a lot going on around campus. It isn't hard finding things to get involved in.

5 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: If you want to use drugs at ACU, you really have to look for it. If you don't intentionally seek it out, you will probably never see it.

Diversity: Because it is a very Christian school, there is not much open discussion about the LGBT community, although this is changing.
ACU is an expensive private school, so most assume that the students are from a middle or upper class economic background. Although there are students that fit this description, my experience has been that this is not always the case. There are several students who are either paying their own way, or who are very reliant on scholarships, grants, and loans.
There is a large international population on campus, but they have a tendency to stay within their own community (again, I see this starting to change as more attempts are being made to reach out to the larger ACU community).
The vast majority of the student body has some type of Christian affiliation. I think the only people I've met on-campus who do not identify themselves as Christian are the international students from East Asian countries where Buddhism is prominent.
Overall, I would say the students at ACU are very welcoming. What challenges exist now in terms of ethnic/racial diversity and sexual orientation are starting to be addressed more openly and there is a push for a more open dialogue as well.

Off-Campus Housing: Freshman and Sophomores are required to live in the dorms, so there is no off-housing for them.
For everyone else, the majority of ACU students rent houses that surround the campus. These are usually very cheap, although the houses are very old and quality can be an issue. There are apartments on campus, but they are very expensive and adhere to campus rules. There are other apartments around campus, but they are generally more expensive than renting a home and are also further from the campus. The houses are all within walking distance, but you will need a car for the majority of the apartment complexes.

Computers: The entire campus is on a wireless network. There are a few areas with limited wireless access, but overall, the wireless coverage works at a reasonable speed. During registration, it is not uncommon for the wireless server to crash, however the school is really good at trying to fix it as soon as possible.
There are several computers available in the library and I have never had an issue finding one available.

Facilities: ACU is notorious for contributing to personal growth. Both the community and faculty are very warm and welcoming. Because of its small size, ACU does not have a wide variety of academic programs, but the ones that do exist are of excellent quality. There is not much in the campus life department or social scene.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Campus aesthetics are fantastic. ACU was recently ranked 18th most beautiful college campus by Newsweek. There are many open spaces and flowers. The library was recently remodeled. There is not much to do in the student center besides checking your mail, eating, shopping in the campus store, or bowling. There is now a state-of-the-art student recreation and wellness center.

Athletics: Supposedly there are talented athletic groups at ACU. However, ACU lacks in school spirit. Some people go to the football games; that's the extent.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: There is not a lot to do in Abilene. Places tend to close pretty early and not even open on the weekends. It is surprising that there isn't more for college students considering there are three universities in Abilene but there just isn't. If you're looking for partying and having fun every night, this isn't the place for you. However, if you're really committed to studies and focusing, it isn't so bad.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The professors are great. They know their information and make sure to challenge in different aspects and do their job when they need to. They're available out of class a great amount of time even for issues beyond class. They really concentrate on academics and undergraduates at ACU.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Oh climate and weather. Nobody is going to agree on this. Rating isn't really going to help. I enjoy cold weather and snow, but I knew it was going to be hot. It can sometimes get to be winter weather in Abilene, but I've heard there's only maybe one snow storm in January. It stays pretty warm and good weather for most of the year.

Campus Dining: This depends on perspective for ACU. The Bean is pretty good with supplying different choices for food and it hasn't gotten old for me yet. However, if you happen to have a food allergy, this place could be terrible. There's gluten free options but there isn't always something out since they usually only serve most food during the dining hours even if they're open basically all day. People also seem to enjoy the gluten free bread options so there isn't any left for people who actually need it by the end of the week if they want to get a sandwich. Beyond that, things can often get mixed quite easily so it depends.

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: Now don't get me wrong, the financial aid office is wonderful. They make sure to stay on top of things and keep organized. When it comes to scholarships though, you need to make sure to work directly with them with an scholarships and financial aid questions. You can't rely on anyone else except for them in this category.

3 College Freshman

Computers: The computer labs tend not to be crowded. They might be more crowded around finals times but most people tend to have their own laptops to use which is useful. However, when you have a heavy duty project to complete for a class, the computers have many useful programs to use and create a brilliant project. The printers have been out of use several times, in fact there was a few days in which all the printers in the library weren't working. However, the technology center tries to ensure that they stay on top of things to keep the technology running. The only time the network slows down at any time is when everyone is registering for classes.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: The winters are mild, which is sad if you like snow and cold, but good if you don't. It gets pretty hot in the summer, but the fall and spring are perfect.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Professors are at the top of their respective fields and genuinely care about the students. Courses are challenging but good grades are achievable because the professors put in that extra effort. With a few excepetions, classes are not too large.

4 College Senior

Drug Safety: There is some drug use at ACU, although you really have to know someone who partakes in order to find anything. It is not something that is very popular on campus. ACU has a strong anti-drinking policy for a long time, so you will find almost nothing on campus. There are some parties that students over 21 will hold off campus, but for the most part, the vast majority of students are able to have a great time without engaging in alcohol or drug use

5 College Senior

Facilities: The professors at ACU are unlike those at any other college. Many are at the top of their field. And one thing that you can find with almost every professor is someone who you can come to, no matter the circumstances. Whether it's trouble with math, trouble with your family, or any other issue, the teachers care enough about every student to open their doors and give of their time to ensure that each student is taken care of and ultimately leaves the school not only as a better student but a more full person
