4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Not Much to Do – There isn't a whole lot to do in Abilene. Most students go to parties or a small country bar, but other than that the choices are very limited.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Unexpectedly Easy – While on the surface ACU seems like it is a very strict place to go, when rules are broken there are often just warnings given, rather than severe punishments.

4 College Junior

Greek Life: Not Really Greek – ACU doesn't have Greek. They do, however, have "social clubs" which is virtually the same as Greek but with slightly more university supervision.

3 College Junior

Weather: Hot and Cold – For about 9 months out of the year, it is extremely hot and humid. The other 3 months, it is often extremely cold. There are rarely any "nice" weather days.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are many common options, and some hidden gems, but a lot of the better options are located on the opposite side of town.

College Freshman

Majors: Great School – This school really is a great bit of help and they do pretty much what they can to make sure that you get in. If you just continue to work with them they have you taken care of. There are many Majors to choose from as well

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: It's Old – There are many housing options around campus, but most of the homes were built in the 1950s and have plumbing, electrical, and other issues which don't make for the most ideal living situations but are considered "college" houses. Many are in walking distance of campus which is a bonus when it's not 100+ degrees outside. Cost is reasonable and landlords are very helpful. Safety can be an issue when living in low quality homes around low income people. A little further from campus are nicer homes built in the 1990s but it is an impossible walk or bike ride. There are apartments available nearby and the old ones are very sketchy and not safe whatsoever, but the newer ones are nice and gated with a pool. ACU also provides houses around the area and you can sign up to be on a waiting list for that.

Overall Experience: Worth Every Penny – Abilene Christian University is often viewed as an overpriced private university with "rules" that limit the college student experience, but it is truly the people on campus that make it unique. You will not walk through a door without someone holding it open for you or walk on campus without someone saying hello. The students and faculty are friendly and respectful because we hold ourselves to a higher standard than most universities. With that also comes the daily chapel in the coliseum and freshman curfew, but I believe all those "rules" keep your social life from ruling your academic life and ultimately your spiritual life.

1 College Junior

Nightlife: Slim to None – Nightlife rarely has anything to do with clubs, although Guitars on Thursday nights can be pretty popular since it's 18-and-older and ladies get in free. But I say skip the clubs. House parties are usually free and if you have to pay, it means they're providing alcohol and have already talked to the ACU Police so it is less likely to get busted. Just be ready to run if you're under 21 and the cops show up.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Definitely a Safe Campus – I've rarely felt unsafe on campus. ACUPD is around campus all the time, and is there for the students. They aren't just security, but actual cops, and trained for first-response in accidents. There have been a few incidents, but no college campus is without crime. Security was immediately stepped-up, and I felt even safer than I did before the crime took place.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: We Say We're Diverse – There are a lot of students who come from different background at ACU for such a small school, but the majority are upper-middle class Caucasian students from Texas. But for the students who aren't like the rest, there is a great diversity among the student population. There is a large amount of international students at ACU mostly from Africa, and Asia. Most of the students at ACU come from a Church of Christ background, but they are a lot of others who share different views. There are also open forums for students to express their views such as in classroom settings, or in Chapel forums, etc.

Health & Safety: ACU Police officers are actually members of the Abilene Police Department. They are always present and the ACU jurisdiction extends beyond campus itself, helping to keep students living in nearby houses safe. While incidents occasionally happen, they are dealt with quickly by officers who know and care about the students!

4 College Senior

Academics: People Care About You! One of the best programs in the country, the MFT program at ACU focuses on training the absolute best clinicians. The program is intense and time consuming but so absolutely amazingly, worth it. The professors and supervisors are experienced and knowledgeable. The faculty, staff, and your fellow students join together in a team to train. Everyone cares about everyone! A great community where your professors and supervisors want to you succeed!

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: They Are Fair. The ACU police do as much as they can to protect the school. They aren't so strict that the student would hate them, but they do enforce the rules very well.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: It Could've Went Better – I got some financial aid from my college and FAFSA, but it wasn't enough. I'm still working on how to pay to for it.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Very Friendly Environment – Abilene Christian University is a great school. Hardin Simmons is right down the street and McMurry University is only a few miles away. All 3 of the interact very much. It's a great way to make new friends.

4 Recent Alumnus

Greek Life: At Abilene Christian they are called social clubs, and they are great. Most people want to get involved in them and they really enjoy it.

3 Recent Alumnus

Local Atmosphere: Not Much to Do – There is not very much stuff to do in the city of abilene. Kind of boring,

4 Recent Alumnus

Majors: No Regrets – I enjoy being a Graphic Design major here at Abilene Christian University. I am excited to continue on and graduate with a bachelor's degree in a few years. I look forward to starting my career. I have heard many good things about the Graphic Design majors that have already graduated and have been very successful in big companies.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: Smooth System – They have a smooth system in place that easily allows for switching/canceling or whatever else you need to do to your major. Its simple and efficient.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: They Are Reluctant – They have a lot of opportunities to get scholarships, but at the end of the day, when crunch time comes they don't really budge at all.

2 College Sophomore

Diversity: The majority is definitely white, however we do have plenty of international students.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Close, Not the Best, Decent Pricing – The housing is close which is a plus, but the quality and price is about average. Not to expensive, but just right for college kids imo

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Lots of Options – There are lots of options for social activities. Sometimes there are little carnivals or live music, free movies, stuff like that.

4 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Pretty Attractive School – Everyone is pretty good looking and fit at ACU. The majority of people like to look nice. People are definitely looking for relationships and marriage, so don't expect flings or hook-ups to go well.
