5 College Freshman

Facilities: The Christian environment at ACU is wonderful and unique. Abilene is in the Bible Belt of Texas, and so there are many churches. This great because it allows students to challenge their faith and discover new religions. There are also many unique traditions like Sing Song, which is an annual event where clubs and classes preform an A Capella medley of songs with hand motions, and crazy costumes. This event is like a second homecoming. Also almost all of the professors have their doctorate, or at the very least their masters. Every professor challenges every student to do their best, and they are all super helpful! This is a great school to go to because it is constantly challenging students, and preparing them for the outside world.

Parking: There are always available parking spots for current students on campus. The permit cost is very inexpensive ($5) which is great in comparison to other schools. The only complaint I have is that just are very small, and sometimes people's cars get minor damage.

Facilities: The new rec center at ACU is perfect for hanging out and exercising!

5 College Freshman

Computers: ACU makes computers available to anyone and they are all great quality.

Campus Housing: Gardner is the best girls freshman dorm, I love it!

Guys & Girls: The ACU community is not very diverse so there is not much variation between girls and guys. When I speak of diversity, I refer to economically, racially and socially so everyone is basically the same minus a few individuals. However, people do not judge others on being the same or on those who choose to be different. Almost everyone at ACU is friendly and welcoming.

Athletics: Involvement of Varsity sports is a big part of the ACU community. While we are not the best in every sport, our campus is filled with school spirit, especially at football and basketball games. During the first half of every football games, every ACU student stands unwaveringly until the halftime buzzer to show support.

Campus Strictness: ACU is a strict campus compared to a lot of other private schools. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing because they, unlike alot of "announced Christian campuses", actually exemplify the values they preach. They are pretty strict about drinking, partying and visitation but overall it is not bad.

Diversity: ACU has increased in diversity over the years but is still predominantly white.

Off-Campus Dining: Abilene has good options, but most of them are chain restaurants. There are a lot of affordable options though that are close to campus.

Weather: If you live in Texas, you know the weather is hot one day and cold the next. It gets fairly cold in the winter and extremely hot in the summer.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: Lots of house parties. The few bars we have usually have country bands playing on weekends like Josh Abbott and Randy Rogers.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are some popular places that mostly aren't too expensive. There just is not an overwhelming amount of them.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: The facilities are pretty nice. There is an awesome Rec. There is always a lot going on around campus. It isn't hard finding things to get involved in.

5 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: If you want to use drugs at ACU, you really have to look for it. If you don't intentionally seek it out, you will probably never see it.

Diversity: Because it is a very Christian school, there is not much open discussion about the LGBT community, although this is changing.
ACU is an expensive private school, so most assume that the students are from a middle or upper class economic background. Although there are students that fit this description, my experience has been that this is not always the case. There are several students who are either paying their own way, or who are very reliant on scholarships, grants, and loans.
There is a large international population on campus, but they have a tendency to stay within their own community (again, I see this starting to change as more attempts are being made to reach out to the larger ACU community).
The vast majority of the student body has some type of Christian affiliation. I think the only people I've met on-campus who do not identify themselves as Christian are the international students from East Asian countries where Buddhism is prominent.
Overall, I would say the students at ACU are very welcoming. What challenges exist now in terms of ethnic/racial diversity and sexual orientation are starting to be addressed more openly and there is a push for a more open dialogue as well.

Off-Campus Housing: Freshman and Sophomores are required to live in the dorms, so there is no off-housing for them.
For everyone else, the majority of ACU students rent houses that surround the campus. These are usually very cheap, although the houses are very old and quality can be an issue. There are apartments on campus, but they are very expensive and adhere to campus rules. There are other apartments around campus, but they are generally more expensive than renting a home and are also further from the campus. The houses are all within walking distance, but you will need a car for the majority of the apartment complexes.

Computers: The entire campus is on a wireless network. There are a few areas with limited wireless access, but overall, the wireless coverage works at a reasonable speed. During registration, it is not uncommon for the wireless server to crash, however the school is really good at trying to fix it as soon as possible.
There are several computers available in the library and I have never had an issue finding one available.

Facilities: ACU is notorious for contributing to personal growth. Both the community and faculty are very warm and welcoming. Because of its small size, ACU does not have a wide variety of academic programs, but the ones that do exist are of excellent quality. There is not much in the campus life department or social scene.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Campus aesthetics are fantastic. ACU was recently ranked 18th most beautiful college campus by Newsweek. There are many open spaces and flowers. The library was recently remodeled. There is not much to do in the student center besides checking your mail, eating, shopping in the campus store, or bowling. There is now a state-of-the-art student recreation and wellness center.

Athletics: Supposedly there are talented athletic groups at ACU. However, ACU lacks in school spirit. Some people go to the football games; that's the extent.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: There is not a lot to do in Abilene. Places tend to close pretty early and not even open on the weekends. It is surprising that there isn't more for college students considering there are three universities in Abilene but there just isn't. If you're looking for partying and having fun every night, this isn't the place for you. However, if you're really committed to studies and focusing, it isn't so bad.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The professors are great. They know their information and make sure to challenge in different aspects and do their job when they need to. They're available out of class a great amount of time even for issues beyond class. They really concentrate on academics and undergraduates at ACU.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Oh climate and weather. Nobody is going to agree on this. Rating isn't really going to help. I enjoy cold weather and snow, but I knew it was going to be hot. It can sometimes get to be winter weather in Abilene, but I've heard there's only maybe one snow storm in January. It stays pretty warm and good weather for most of the year.

4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: This depends on perspective for ACU. The Bean is pretty good with supplying different choices for food and it hasn't gotten old for me yet. However, if you happen to have a food allergy, this place could be terrible. There's gluten free options but there isn't always something out since they usually only serve most food during the dining hours even if they're open basically all day. People also seem to enjoy the gluten free bread options so there isn't any left for people who actually need it by the end of the week if they want to get a sandwich. Beyond that, things can often get mixed quite easily so it depends.
