Local Atmosphere: Abilene is a very small town where everyone knows everyone and where a woman never has to open a door for herself. Southern hospitality and the genuine loving atmosphere toward college students is amazing. Abilene does lack a lot in the way of night life, but with all of your friends living either on campus or within two miles from campus, you won't have any problems socializing.

Campus Strictness: ACU is a little bit too strict with their rule about no members of the opposite sex in the dorm except on Thursday nights. Sometimes I need furniture moved or something heavy carried upstairs because of a a recent shoulder surgery that I had, so this rule makes that very difficult.

Guys & Girls: Guys - lots of different types (nice, funny, athletic, etc.)
Girls - Athletic, friendly, engaging, artsy.

Overall - people here are pretty obsessed with getting married by the time they leave.

Greek Life: At ACU we don't have the true "Greeks" and "non-Greeks". We have "social clubs", which are basically girls and guys groups on campus that function as our version of fraternities and sororities. They are more like close-knit families and those of use not in them (like me) do not feel left out of the campus community at all. I have many friends in various different clubs and they love being in them.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is great because it provides a wonderful opportunity during your first years of schools to really get involved with ACU's unique community. You meet your closest friends while living on campus and make a variety of connections with people in all majors. You will have an RA (Resident Assistant) who is an upperclassmen living on your hall and is there to help you with anything you need.

Academics: You will always have a professor teaching your class, who has earned their doctorate in their subject. They are all very knowledgeable about their chosen areas and love to share that knowledge. They are also interested in their students. The largest class I had was about 100 and that was for one bible class that everyone has to take. Most of your class will be 30-40 and when you get into your Junior year they will probably by 20 or less, so you really get to know your professors well.

Academics: I am in the Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Department as a Wildlife Management major. Our professors are constantly encouraging us to do our own research and present it at conferences, which really helps your resume and gives you real life experience. They also help you find internships and jobs when you graduate.

Campus Dining: The Bean (our main place to eat) is more like a nice all-you-can-eat buffet than a cafeteria, with 6 stations to choose from and live piano music during lunch. And there is a small cafe with a variety of foods in many buildings on campus.

Academics: I am currently undeclared, which can be worrying, but the people in the undeclared department are very friendly and honestly care about you. They want to help you find the right major for you. There is a program known as Discovery where you take tests and try to help understand what a good career would look like for you. I have mostly heard good things about it and am currently starting it myself. It does cost money, though. It is also really easy to have your academic advisor put you in contact with professors and students, etc. in a prospective major or career.

Drug Safety: There are people here who use drugs and who drink alcohol, although those things are strictly prohibited on campus. Honestly, I have only ever heard of this being a thing. If you don't want to participate, it is pretty easy to stay away from all of that stuff.

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of places within walking distance from campus with good food. Many of them are chain restaurants like Cracker Barrel, Rosas's, McDonald's, etc. There are also some locally owned places, although after 10:00 p.m. the selection shrinks a bit. It also pays to explore places farther from campus, like Monk's Coffee.

Majors: The majors here are all AMAZING. I know that the education and business departments are some of the toughest and best in the nation. ALL of the degree plans at ACU have extremely high hiring rates, most of them being at 99% right after graduation.

4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: The main dining area offers lots of options and includes nutrition descriptions for all the meals. There are also a lot of other on-campus snack areas beside the main dining hall.

Weather: The campus isn't very big here, so when the weather is bad you don't have to walk too long in it. When it's nice out, a lot of students study on the grass outside. I've even had a few professors move us outside and teach us out there.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: The community loves it's college students. Good small town feel but still everything you need for shopping etc.

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of great restaurants in Abilene that can be great when on the go.

Computers: Very accessible, new, work well, hard to check them out sometimes though.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I have not looked thoroughly for off campus housing yet, but they are very good about advertising around campus, and all are reasonably priced, and usually close to campus.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There is a lack of options, but the general fast food located near campus, and all is cheap

Scholarships: The financial aid process is pretty easy as far as financial aid goes. They have great payment plans and are willing to help you if you need it. It's sometimes hard to get an appointment with them, but once you do they're helpful.

3 College Senior

Greek Life: Very big deal on campus. Once a year during pledging it makes things crazy on campus but everyone gets along for the most part.

5 College Senior

Computers: ACU is VERY up to date with technology. Great computers/printers in the library, and they do a lot with iPads as well. There are always people available to help with technology problems, and you learn a lot about technology at ACU.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: It's a Christian school, so of course there are more rules than a non-Christian school, but they give you a lot of freedom as well. Only freshman have curfews, which isn't always the case at Christian schools. The campus police are not very strict either.

3 Recent Alumnus

Diversity: This school is racially/culturally diverse in that it has many international students. It is a Christian institution but welcomes those of all faiths. Undergraduates, however, are required to study Bible courses and attend daily chapel, with only a few exceptions. Gays are poorly accepted and LGBT diversity is not addressed openly.

2 Recent Alumnus

Off-Campus Housing: Most off campus housing consists of garage apartments, old houses divided into apartments, or older people who rent out rooms. Most landlords are decent, but some are very poor at maintaining their properties.
