Name: Bekka Farquharson
Hometown: Natick, MA
Major: Professional Communications
Grad Year: 2013
What made you choose your school? The communications program is amazing! There is a great staff and the classes aren't just lectures. We actually have hands on experience in what we will be doing in the real world after graduation. I also had a scholarship to any state school in Massachusetts to receive free tuition. So it was a cheaper option than a couple of my other schools I applied to.
What activity makes you happy? At school, I love event planning. It is a lot of fun to plan and organize original, homegrown events and see the student body in attendance having a great time. It feels great to have accomplished such a successful time for several people. Outside of school, I love to watch movies and catch up on the latest celebrity gossip. I love tweeting and reading magazines, Cosmo, Seventeen and Popstar are definitely my favorites.
What is your biggest pet peeve? People who don't let loose and have a little fun and when people walk too slow down the street.
What is something about you that might surprise someone? I was a film and video major when I started college. I was determined to be an executive producer, but getting through the technical courses was too much of a challenge and the life of an executive producer is definitely not where I see my future going.
What is your favorite book, movie, or TV show and why? My favorite books include "Twilight" (yes, all four books...LOL), "The Great Gatsby", "Catcher in the Rye", "All American Girl" and "10 Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn't Have)". I don't think I could pick an all-time favorite though in any of these categories. I love variety and it's just fun to re-read something years after your first experience with it to see if you still love it. As for movies, I LOVE "John Tucker Must Die", "The Sweetest Thing" and "Country Strong". And I will save you your sanity and not list off the mass of television shows i watch and love.
If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why? Well, my dreams of traveling to Australia are sort of a reality for me... Except the financial aspect. I am applying to study abroad next Fall. So if I had to pick my next place it would either be Paris or Ireland. I have always wanted to see the Eiffel Tower and I am Irish so I would love to see a little bit more of part of my heritage. However, I definitely have a handful of other places on that bucket list of mine.
If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be? I'm not sure... Whenever I'm asked about having superpowers I'm ALWAYS asked if I would rather fly or be able to read people's minds. Flying would be great, but I'm a pretty fast walker and I definitely don't want to be able to read people's minds (I don't want to hear what people really think about me or someone else for that matter). If I had to decide though I think I would kind of like to be a Charlie's Angel. In any adaptation of the show they always have fun while they are together and they always get the bad guy and they don't need special powers to do so. Also they always have the best shoes and clothes!! :)
If you had a million dollars, how would you spend it? I'm not very good with taking care of myself financially. I'm quite the spender and haven't been able to figure out the "saver" aspect yet... :( So I definitely would try to save some of it, but I would absolutely get myself my first car, buy a nice apartment for me and my best friend in New York City or maybe somewhere in California and the rest would most likely go towards my shoe collection. I would buy tons of new shoes, but I'd also have to create the PERFECT closet to display them and easily access them. ...I absolutely LOVE my shoes. :)
What are your plans for after graduation? Plans after graduation... Well depending on where the work is, will determine where I will be moving. But I know that I will be leaving Massachusetts finally! :) If I work for a magazine I will most likely move to New York with my best friend, who is chasing his professional dancer career at Adelphi University currently. Otherwise, if I go with my other dream of entertainment promotions I will be heading to California on my own and will just immerse myself in the world of Hollywood! :)
I'm very career oriented and complete what I want first, but I also once I have a career would like to settle down and raise my own family... preferably in a slightly different kind of area than I grew up, I always wanted to move into the city and get away from the suburbs.
